Inclement Weather

Saint Nicholas Parish Event & Activity changes will be announced on the homepage of the parish website or on the parish telephone message (301-490-5116). In general, decisions for Parish activities will be based on Prince Georges County Public Schools regarding delayed opening, early dismissal, complete closure, afterschool activities, and evening activities. Regardless, the times for Sunday and daily Mass will not change. Please use good judgment when deciding whether to venture out in bad weather.
Mass during Inclement Weather
Sunday and daily Masses, regardless of weather conditions, will always take place.
All baptized Catholics are obliged to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. However, there are particular circumstances or conditions that may excuse a Catholic from this obligation. If you are ill, homebound, or if there are severe weather conditions that make attending Mass dangerous to your safety or that of others, you are excused from the obligation. In such cases, if you are unable to attend Mass, the Church recommends making a spiritual Communion and spending time in prayer.
Remember that the Sunday TV Mass allows for those who are homebound to spiritually participate in the Catholic Mass. The Mass, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Washington, airs on Sundays from 10:30 am - 11:00 am on WDCW (“The CW”).
Activities at Saint Nicholas during Inclement Weather
In case of inclement weather, Church-related activities, classes, meetings, and events (outside of liturgy) may be cancelled. While we have contracted to have the Parish parking lots and sidewalks cleared during winter weather, the Parish is not able to promise that the church grounds will be completely clear and safe. If conditions for walking or driving to church seem dangerous, then parishioners are encouraged to remain safe. Please use good judgement.
